The 11th edition of VIVO IPL 2018 started on April 7 in a grand and thrilling style. Before the match, a glitzy opening ceremony with Bollywood stars like Varun Dhawan, Prabhu Deva, Tamanna Bhatia, Jacqueline Fernandez, Mika Singh and Hrithik Roshan impressed the onlookers. The ceremony was held at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, which is the home of defending champions Mumbai Indians.

The first match was played between Chennai Superkings and the defending champions Mumbai Indians. CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to field first. Put into bat first, Mumbai posted a challenging target of 166 with fine cameos from Suryakumar Yadav(43), Krunal Pandya (41) and Ishan Kishan(40). Successful bowler for Chennai was Shane Watson who took 2 tickets giving away 29 runs in 4 overs. Chennai started on a bad note losing 4 wickets for 51 runs. Chennai were reeling at 118-8 at one stage with Dwayne Bravo still in crease. Then rest of the innings became history with Dwayne Bravo thrashing the Mumbai bowlers all over the park. Chennai held their nerves in the last over and won the match by 1 wicket with a ball to spare. Chennai scored 51 runs in last 3.2 overs thanks mainly to the star of the day Dwayne Bravo. Dwayne Bravo was declared Man of the Match for his scintillating knock of 68 from 30 balls.
